Welcome to the Worcester Model Aero Club
The W.M.A.C. is among the oldest model flying clubs in the world having
been formed in the early 1900’s. (There is a brief history of the club
on the history page. )
We are fortunate enough to have two grass flying sites which we use on alternate days. One is in the Hanbury area just to the east of Droitwich, one at Rushwick just to the west of Worcester.
Club members are responsible for maintaining the runway and pit areas, and we arrange between ourselves
to mow and if necessary roll the runways. In the winter months we avoid parking in the pit area which involves a
short tarmac walk from your car after dropping off flight kit and models.
The club caters for all aspects of fixed wing model flying, and we fly models ranging from small
24" wingspan up to 30% petrol engined scale airplanes. We have some very experienced
modellers who lovingly hand craft their own models either from plans or commercial wood kits, and those who happily buy from the
wide range of 'Almost Ready To Fly' kits. Given the ready availability of ARTF models they probably make up the majority of those flown at our sites.
We have members with gliders, bungee or electric motor launched, and one or two
that are tug plane launched.
Battery and motor technology has improved dramatically over the last few years
and an increasing number, though currently still a minority, are choosing this for
some or all of the above.
We have a group of unpaid volunteer instructors who willingly offer limited
informal instruction should you be new to the hobby. We adhere strictly to the B.M.F.A. Award
scheme and have examiners in the club who will enable you to obtain your
fixed wing ‘A’ or ‘B’ certification.
If you'd like to come along and see what goes on, please ring one of the committee
members on the contacts
page and we'll be happy to arrange to meet you at a club site.
We have a handful of fixed-wing pilots who also have helicopters, but we are primarily a
fixed-wing club. Regretfully we cannot cater for pilots who fly helicopters exclusively
and similarly we are unable to offer tuition for those models.
